James E. West Fellowship

Recognizing gifts to the Prairie Peaks Council endowment fund, which keeps Scouting strong for the young people who come after us.

Who was James E. West?

Dr. James E. West was the first Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America and led the movement for more than three decades. He embodied Ralph Waldo Emerson’s observation:

“An institution is the lengthened shadow of one man.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Scouting today is the lengthened shadow of Dr. West’s farseeing leadership. James E. West Fellows cast a lengthened shadow of their own, securing the Scouting legacy for future generations and giving the council lasting financial stability.

How to become a Fellow

Any gift to Prairie Peaks Council that the donor designates for the council endowment fund qualifies. Membership begins with a gift of $1,000 in cash or marketable securities, and gifts may be pledged and paid over time.

Endowment gifts are made in addition to your annual Friends of Scouting support, not in place of it.

Recognition levels

Gifts are cumulative, so you can grow your fellowship over time.

  • Bronze$1,000
  • Silver$5,000
  • Gold$10,000
  • Diamond$25,000

For example, five years of giving at the Bronze level qualifies you for Silver membership.

Honor someone special

Individuals and businesses can make a fellowship gift in honor of someone, such as an Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver recipient, Scoutmaster or Cubmaster, or to mark a retirement, an anniversary or a special accomplishment. A gift can also be made in memory of someone who made a difference.

Each Fellow receives a certificate, a lapel pin and a square knot to wear on the uniform.
